What I do to fill in my spare time.

  • I live in a 2 bedroom, inner city, semi detached house so have limited space. As there is no garage and the shed is only big enough for the mower and garden stuff, I use a spare room as my workspace. It’s a pretty small area about 2.4 by 4.2 metres. I lose about 1 metre of that for a passage way to the laundry and back door.

    A few more pictures here.

I fitted a new floor, green tongue particle board, over the existing T&G floor. Three coats of Wattyl 7008 polyurethane gives it an easy to clean finish and looks like cork tiles.

The workbench is made up of kitchen style cabinets (they were a skill test prior to installing a new kitchen) made from 16mm HMR melamine.
The top is 2 thicknesses of 19mm ply glued together with a solid timber edge. The lathe bench just visible on the right is of the same construction. Many coats of Wattyl 7008 were applied here also.
Drawer and cupboard fronts are 12mm ply with 19mm pine frames. Just Wattyl Estapol on these ones. Still need to get some knobs.

According to plan, the mill is now on the stainless steel trolley. I had to take the mill apart to properly align it so took the opportunity to move it as well.

I really need to get some knobs fitted to those drawers!
